I just bought a PS4 to play with my friends as none o them are into the whole DIY gaming pc etc and i was wondering if parental controls could possibly block the ps4 from being able to access the internet as i currently cannot get an internet connection. It finds the IP address and the instantly fails the Network test...? (It is currently hard wired and all PS4 websites are normaly blocked on PC)

Solution

well i would go back to what other have suggested and try another ethernet cable. it could also be the fact you are using powerline adapters which is a great solution to try to keep internet but can end causing unstable connections like Wi-Fi

are you sure the network cable is good, not damaged?

about the ip, did you entered the ip or your router has dhcp enabled? do you enter ip addresses into the devices you connect to your router like laptops and desktop, tv in general?

No i set everything to easy as i have spent the last 2 hours trying different dns etc combinations suggested online. I have also tried both my free cables on the PS4 and no differnce they do work as i tried them, on my laptop which i use on the cable once a week or so.

I have my base modem/router at the main phone line for the house which then goes through power line to the main router which provides Ethernet too 2 PC's and what used to be my Xbox One but now my PS4. I have tried the wifi from the router beside the PS4 and from the base one both with no effect. I did just attempt to use a wifi hotspot from my phone which worked and found internet access but my current network only has 2G in my area which is useless...

so is a isp router, then a powerline connection, and from here another router, correct?

other devices have internet access properly right now, correct?

the second router, did you connected the powerline into the what port or in one of the ethernet ports?

The isp router is not used at all ever, everything is usually handled by the Asus router further into the house. Every other device in the house works fine bar the PS4. The power line just goes into the Blue port in the router (Cant remember its name) and the other 4 Yellow Ethernet ports are what i use for PC etc

One thing to note is that when it says that there is no internet after the test i can load into the Sony troubleshooting website and from there i can connect to every part of their website which would suggest that it is able to connect in some way...?

sounds like your modem may be blocking some ports that the PSN needs access to. i would either lookup what ports PSN needs and setup port forwarding for the PS4 or setup an IP address for the PS4 in DMZ mode
