PC stutters heavily after 10mins of smooth gaming

So I have been running games on my PC for the last year and a half completely fine and today when i tried playing GTA and some other games, after about 5-15 minutes of playing the game stutters to a ridiculous amount (I'm talking like 1FPS). Not only does my game stutter but my PC lags as well and I have to shut the game down through task manager to get it to go back to normal. I did get a new mobo about 1 month ago but the games were running fine up till now and i don't know what that would have to do with it. I monitor my temperatures as I game and they are the same as they have always been (between 60-80C during load for the GPU and 50-60 for the CPU during load).

What I've tried:

  • Reinstalling GPU drivers
    enabling/disabling page file
    Full virus scan

Specs:

  • GPU: AMD Radeon R9 390 (8GB)
    CPU: Intel i7 5820k
    RAM: 16GB
any help would be much appreciated!

Did you use DDU when you attempted to reinstall your GPU drivers? While the stutters happen, check in task manager what is mostly using your CPU and RAM. Download MSI afterburner and check your GPU usage when the stuttering happens. What is your HDD/SSD?

i uninstalled them then redownloaded the drivers from the amd website. when the stuttering happens there isn't a particular program that pops up in the task manager, the game just uses less CPU and GPU %. I am running my games from a 500GB Crucial CT500M MX200 SSD. Also I didn't mention before but the mobo is an MSI x99a sli plus

It seems like a weird throttling, however considering the temps you're getting it's pretty strange.

Could you monitor the usage on the GPU, CPU and RAM while gaming and let us know the results.

On a side note, is the game files stored on a HDD or SSD and how long have you had the drives' (If more than one) + Could you try another game and see what the results are?

Did you make sure that you are sorting the processes from highest to lowest (Resources usage) ? Do you experience this while browsing, watching or just while gaming ? If the SSD's manufacturer has a tool to test that SSD then download it and check its health.

I monitored them and as it stuttered; GPU activity gradually dropped to 0%, memory speed stayed the same and GPU speed dropped a little while after. the games are on an SSD and I've had both my drives for 1 year and a half. I tried BDO and it was actually worse then GTA and stuttered within 5 mins.

Would you be able to download Prime95 / Cinebench or some kind of CPU stress test application and same for the GPU (HEAVEN BENCHMARK / 3D Mark etc...)

See whether the system stutters in any of those applications?

Side note: have you overclocked any of your hardware?

Yea but don't adjust anything. I just wanted to see if you have made any tweaks so you reset everything back to default. You said that you have already did that. Do you mean you already updated your BIOS and windows ?

i ran cinebench for CPU and openGL for GPU and neither of them caused it to stutter. I just changed my power options to balanced instead of high performance so maybe thats what caused it im not sure. I need to do some more tests to see if it stutters now

I'll do that as a last resort if changing the power options doesn't work. How would i go about updating the bios my friend?

Some board vary in ways but you usually load the BIOS file onto a USB drive - Some motherboards (ASUS) have an easy BIOS updater option which is quicker, but just type into youtube or google, How to update BIOS for *insert motherboard model or make*

BIOS updates downloads will be on the motherboards manufacturers websites - under your model.
