Can I use 1 x 8GB + 2 x 4GB RAM together?

I have 1 stick 8gb ram and 2 sticks of 4 gig ram will it work? Any draw backs? It's same brand gskill aegis same sticks just different size

If it works it works.

You want the 8gb stick in 1 channel & the 2x4gb sticks in a seperate channel to stand a chance of still running dual channel mode.
Whether it works or not will be entirely dependant on your motherboard.

So the 8 gig stick in slot 1 ? And the 2 4 gigs sticks in slots 3 and 4?

By the way I have a z270x gigabyte motherboard if that helps i5 7600k processor

Depends on the actual board model.

Generally memory channels are alternate slots.
1 & 3 = channel 1
2 & 4 = channel 2

They're normally colour coded with 2 black slots & 2 grey or white slots.

If so you want the 8gb stick in a black slot
The 2x 4gb sticks in the alternate coloured slots.
