Hey I have a 4GB RAM and I play GTA V.
The game goes smoothly for some time then starts to stutter badly mostly whenever I do something which requires fast processing (Like driving, flying close to the ground).

Can you suggest any fix for this problem other than buying more RAM?

I've tried reducing game settings, but that didn't do anything. I also clear all unwanted background processes before playing which makes me have around 2.3GB RAM free. But GTA V just uses 1 to 1.5 GB and stutters.

Please help.

PC Specs: Intel Core i5 - 4210u @ 2.4GHzz (Goes up to 2.7GHz when under load)
Nvidia GeForce GT 820m 2GB
4GB DDR3 RAM Module @ 1600MHz

Thank you

If you suspect you're running out of VRAM, just drop down to a lower texture quality setting.

I agree with the others that this is probably a computer RAM problem. The official specs for GTA V are 4 GB minimum, 8GB recommended. If they expected the game to run fine in 4GB, they wouldn't have recommended 8GB.

Checking task manager to see how much RAM the game is taking can be deceptive. If the game sees you only have 4 GB of RAM, it may be deliberately keeping its memory footprint small, sacrificing performance as a side effect. So the fact that you're only seeing it use 1-1.5 GB...

Uhh I can't seem to find ShadowPlay or the FPS counter in nvidia experience, Is it like only GTX cards can use the FPS counter?
BTW either my GeForce Experience is updated to the latest or i'm not receiving the updates...

Theres no other way than using more RAM. A friend had the exact same problem, 4GB of RAM, GTA V. He upgraded to 8GBs of RAM and it was much better. I suggest you using a minimum of 8GBs of RAM.

Download, install and run https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner. Go into settings and enable Memory Usage. Next up you need to enable RAM usage. Make sure you click on Show In OSD when you click on each of those sections. Memory usage is referring to GFX memory. Now, get your game on. This is where
Your graphics card is below minimum specs for that game (although not by much). Not sure adding RAM is going to help.

shows my GFX memory usage. Do you see 2743MB? If I were using your laptop I would be exceeding its resources which would result in what you are experiencing like when you drive. That would mean your GFX chip is not fine. It's fine for low usage tasks like walking or running. If all I can do is run around on foot in GTA V I can''t experience the full game.

I see where you said
But GTA V just uses 1 to 1.5 GB and stutters.
How do you know this? Are you already using MSI's OSD? That would suggest VRAM is the problem. You can also see in that screenshot that I am using 4.895GB of system RAM. If I were only using 1.5 I would KNOW that RAM is not the issue and if I were you I would know there is nothing I can do about my GFX chip. They are usually soldered to the board and are usually not upgradeable. The CPU many times can be upgraded but sometimes even that is permanently(for the average user) affixed to the board as well.

So the fact that you're only seeing it use 1-1.5 GB does not necessarily mean it doesn't want more RAM.

This is especially true in open-world games like GTA. The extra RAM is used to pre-load world data for surrounding grid squares. Since you don't know if the player is going to travel N, S, E, W, NW, NE, SW, SE, you just load all 8 surrounding grid squares into RAM. That way the game has the proper grid square loaded and ready regardless of which direction the player decides to move. If there's not enough RAM, the game may be forced to try to guess where the player will go and load only the 2-3 most likely adjacent grid squares. If the player goes a different way, suddenly the game has to load the world data off of disk, and the game will stutter badly or even freeze while this happens. (This is a simplified explanation to make it easier to understand what goes on. In reality, games pre-load grid squares 2, 3, or more tiles deep depending on how much RAM is available.)

Bro I'm playing at a lower setting, about 1700 MB is Video Memory is being used
I know that upgrading RAM will make it at its best, but I can't seem to be able to buy it...
