DVI-D to VGA Adapter

Solution

No, a splitter will only clone the output. If your DVI port is DVI-D you'll need an active dvi-d to vga adapter for 1 monitor and an active hdmi to vga adapter for the other.

The adapter in that link is not a DVI-D to VGA adapter and will not convert a digital signal to analog. It's a DMS-59 to dual vga cable(even says so in the pic).

You need something like this.

Thanks. I understand that it is A DVI-I connection. I am interested to know if DVI-D adapters have the the VGA split connections?

DMS-59 is not DVI-I either it's it's own port type. DVI is only capable of 1 display DMS can support 2. You can buy DVI and VGA splitters but they will only clone the signal not run 2 independent monitors like DMS. I am not aware of any active dvi-d to vga adapters that have a vga splitter you would have to buy that separately.

What makes them different from each other? And I thought DVI-D only transmitted digital signals. How is it able to go from DVI-D to VGA through an active adapter?

Apologies for all the questions. I have a habit of wanting to know how things work and why they work the way they do.

I understand now. Thanks. For some reason I kept confusing the DMS-59 adapter with DVI-I thinking that just because the DVI-I offered analog transmission that it also offered 2 VGA output connections like the DMS-59. I now understand that DVI will always offer only one signal connection. So, I will look for two separate adapters/converters for the DVI-D & HDMI connections.
