Want to replace Google Fiber box with Netgear R6700, but it drops wired speed from 940 to 500MPS???

I just got Google fiber installed, and am planning on replacing their modestly powered router with my Netgear R6700. I have been RTFM about how to do this, and am ordering http:// to be able to do this http://

I have a few questions:

1) When I connect my computer to the wall I get 940 up and down, but if I place the R6700 in between (set to Access point, or as router in double NAT) I "only" get 500mps. I have reset the router, updated the firmware, nothing seems to help. Is it that this router's gigabit ports are really only good up to 500mps, or am I doing something wrong.

2) Once I set connect the Netgear ProSAFE GS108T port 1 to the ONT and connect a router's WAN port to port 2 on the GS108T, how do I connect to the rest of the house? I have an On-Q panel and whole house CAT5e. Would I connect a cable from one of the ports on the back of the router to feed the rest of the house network, or another port on the GS108T?

Should I connect it this way:

Google fiber jack > GS108T > Router > On-Q panel to rest of house

Also, there is an alarm and the google phone box, would they also need to be connected to ports on the Router, or on the GS108T switch? RIght now they are plugged directly into the Google Fiber Network box ports, along with a cable going from the GFNB to my On-Q panel to feed the house.

I am concerned that if I place the R6700 between the GS108T switch and the rest of my home network, I will lower the entire home wired ethernet speed to 500mb, which I don't want to do! I assume I will need to purchase a more powerful router, and then just use the R6700 as an access point elsewhere in the house to have better wifi coverage. I was thinking of the Nighthawk X6 or X8.

The alarm should be fine on the router. I'm fairly certain you wouldn't want your alarm directly connected to the internet.

The Google phone jack is beyond me, since I have never seen it before. It might work fine through NAT, or it might not. Someone who has that would have to advise.

As for the R6700 performance, (it took a little bit of effort) I found out that router uses a dual core 1GHz processor, which would work well for most internet connections, but is lacking a bit for gigabit speeds. You'd probably need something with at least a quad core 1GHz or dual core 2GHz processor to manage it. Even the Netgear Nighthawk X6 (R8000) doesn't have that kind of processing power. Here's a little info on what it takes to route...

Number 1 sounds like the router doesn't have the processing power to handle traffic faster than 500Mb. It's not necessarily the ports, but rather the routing software and the hardware behind it. I would advise getting a more powerful router, perhaps even using a PC with a dual core processor of at least 2GHz with pfsense or opnsense to use for routing purposes. The router is meant to insulate you from the outside world, if you don't put it between your home and the internet connection, it is useless to you. If the router is not powerful enough, get a better router. You can still use the Netgear router for a wireless AP and switch if you want. Just don't use the router portion.

Number 2 Cable it up this way Google Fiber jack -> router (whichever you choose to use) -> GS108T -> rest of the house
This setup allows 1Gb connectivity between all the systems in the house, and yes, if you use the Netgear for the router, the whole rest of the house can only get to the internet at 500Mb. If you use a more powerful router, you'll get better performance.

Better cabling: Google Fiber jack -> pfsense router -> GS108T -> rest of the house -> Netgear R6700 in AP mode
This is essentially the way my network is set up.

Thanks, that is what I was afraid of. Might have to go to Costco and give the X6 a try, since they are on sale. I was scanning the internet, and it looks like some other people complained of the R6700 only having wired 500mps, but then some people reset their router and it got better. Maybe I'll reset it again :(

Are you sure Fiberjack > Router > GS108T > house?? The website made it sound like the switch does VLAN2 first, and then provides the output to the router? If I wire it your way, connect the alarm and the google phone jack to my router, or to the GS108T?
