so I just got my new Asus 1070 Strix and plugged it in. it worked fine and I installed the drivers and then booted up overwatch with my friends.
but for some reason, every 20 minutes or so it just black-screens and my GPU fans are turned up to max. whenever I click it gives that ringing sound that windows does when an error pops up.
I can tell that windows didn't crash still I can still hear my friends in the discord server. but I don't think its a problem with overwatch as my 2nd monitor (that does not have overwatch playing on it) goes dark as well.
any suggestions on what might be happening?

Solution
Try DDU the driver's again. Use an older version of drivers. see how that works out.

if not, At this point from what I understand it could be a hardware issue. this is the point where you can try DDU the drivers again, install your old GPU and see if it crashes at all. if it does, then it's that you have a faulty piece of hardware in your pc, if not, then it could be a faulty GPU.

Either way, you could try reposting question one more time. since this has many replies, it probably will not get much attention. I may not respond for days after this (gonna get going soon)

I did uninstall the old drivers and the gpu temps are fine. I don't know the specifics of my psu, but i do know that it is 80 plus bronze certified and it was able to handle my old gpu, an r9 280 (which required more power than the 1070), just fine.

Hello, apologies for bumping an old thread. I have this same exact issues and have tried many different things. (uninstalling and reinstalling asus drivers, using an older version of drivers, re-seating the GPU into the PCI-E slot, and always checking the temps) My temps are never over 65 degrees C even when gaming which is usually when the black screen happens. What OP posted is exactly what happens to me. Sometimes it even happens when watching twitch. Did OP ever find a solution to this issue?

you can make your own thread in the Graphics Card section. but definetly try to uninstall your drivers with a program to make sure they are completely uninstalled. you should also be listing your whole system spec to see any other possible causes
