How to stop CPU from overclocking!

Hi,

I've been using FX 6300 for quite sometimes now and I just noticed that lately the cpu overclocked itself.

The normal clock for this one supposes to be around 3.5 GHz but it constantly runs at around 4.1 and the throttling happens all the time even on idle.

I don't know what to do now. I reset BIOS setting and everything. I'm using the stock fan cooler though and I don't want to overclock it. This overclocking problem leads to several Kernel Power 41 errors this past two weeks(I'm not sure about that but it's the only suspect here since it makes my CPU temp goes up to 80-85c when gaming and reset the system on its own due to overheating, and of course yes my game crashes even Dota 2.)

Please provide help. I'm basically desperate here.

Thanks

Well I would deduce.that either your CPU or your motherboard were going bad. If in safe mode in Windows your CPU was still running at max with cool and quiet enabled then I would pretty much eleminate spyware and probably a virus. It could still be a virus, but I am thinking it is a hardware issue either with your CPU or Mobo. Next step would really be do a clean install of Windows after resetting your BIOS to factory defaults.

well from a quick look... your CPU has a "TURBO" feature, which will allow your CPU to run at "4.1Ghz" when under load.

by this, I can assume that your system is running properly as far as it's components are concerned.

You should look into scanning your PC for Viruses and Malaware. This is a very likely cause of your system acting up with high heat and CPU usage.

Good luck

I would look at you case cooling. Your cpu is designed to run with the stock cpu cooler at those speeds. What case are you using and how many fans do you have in it? How often do you clean it out ?

I highly doubt it is because of the virus or malware since I just reinstall my Windows (yes I had that speculation before.) So I really don't know what to do. When I read another thread, it is suggested that I should set the maximum processor rate to 99% but that, automatically, sets my speed to only 3.00 GHz at the maximum. I worry that this might cause difficulties when I play games, modern games like Witcher 3 or MGS V which requires CPU speed at least 3.3 GHz or so.

I really don't know how to get my speed up to intended speed at 3.5 GHz now.

The case has only one side fan and I'm using the stock cooler. The case is relatively clean also. Which I don't think it's the problem here.

The problem seems to be the cpu auto-overclocking and spikes since the temp is around 25C at idle when all the cores run at 1.4 but going haywire up to 45-ish with random spikes all the time and reacing 80 at 4.1

Might I add that my CPU right now even when I set it to 99% at balanced power management the CPU almost all the time runs at 3.0 GHz(according to the previous reply). I just don't understand it. These photos are the evidences showing that it runs at full speed even when I just replying this thread.

It's around 3 years old right now. I haven't tried any malware scan after the re-installation though. Will try now.

Well your cpu should run at 3.5ghz all the time unless the boost is needed thus running at 4.1 while gaming. Or are you referring to the amd cool and quiet that throttles the cpu when not under load?

But right now(before I set the processor rate to 99% which reduce it to 3.00 GHz) it runs at 4.1 all the time no matter what. That's the problem I'm trying to solve! And resetting Bios setting didn't help at all. I am running at 99% or 3.00 GHz right now to prevent any temp overheating but at 3.00 GHz I worry that it will affect my gaming.

Well assuming its not a virus you could just manual clock the CPU at 3.5 by adjusting ur multiplier, bus speed and volts but I can't help with that. Or just get better cooling because that CPU should handle stock speeds. 3 years doesn't seem that bad unless youve been running himtemps the whole time and now ur CPU needs more cooling to run at normal speeds.

I really have no idea how to set that since I've never manually overclocked it before. The problem here as I see it is not the temp but the CPU that refuse to work at normal clock speed T_T

Is cool and quiet set to active in the bios? when in bios what is your cpu running at? What about when you boot into safe mode in windows? You do have a problem with heat as well if its hitting 85c with stock speeds of 4.1. you should be able to run that all day long with no problem, but you get artifacts and reboots.

Cool and Quiet is set to be enabled. In BIOS I don't know how to look for the GHz so I don't know. Right now as we speak my PC hits its peak with spikes all the time at around 4.1 GHz and the temp margin is at around 20-25C. I really don't know what to do. I just want it to stay idle when I don't game or underload but now it hits its peak all the time and is driving me crazy!

good advice and I agree. Although I believe hound said he already did a clean install. Assuming he is using a legal version of windows and installed it right I also think its a hardware issue. Might be time to upgrade. Sorry bud.

Do you know anyone that has the same cpu as you and you could do a swap and see if the problem persists.
