Hi,

I just bought the KEF X300A Digital Hifi (powered) Speaker System to replace my Creative SoundBlaster Z soundcard. I have always truly hated Creative and about 5 years ago I bought the Auzentech Prelude and it is still the best PC sound drop-in I have ever owned so I decided I may try an adapter since the thing is only PCI and I have no rail for it in my Asus Z97-WS mainboard. The usual slots available.

Well I began to wonder if my speakers would benefit at all from adding the card to my system.
The speakers although powered do need a digital sound source. Well what is my digital sound source if I have the card installed but by coax or to slink to USB 2 type A female. If a plug adapter even exists to do this I haven't found one... but the onboard sound is very Nice. I don't know if the NVIDIA sound quality is superior (HDMI to female USB type A) to the onboard sound and as I just mentioned.

Are these real options? SO this is really blowing my mind now and I need help sorting out the best options IF I can use a better onboard sound source than what is included with the mainboard.

I basically am asking what pushes the digital audio signal to the powered speakers? No sound drivers required?? That is actually the best case although I know I'll suffer frame rate loss in some games.

I am sensing I'm missing something more obvious. Feel free

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and help with a comment.
Thanks

Powered speakers. They have their own amps. I'm using a powered setup right now. Its the Cambridge Soundworks OontZ Angle.

I assume the signal pushed to it is raw. I don't have a working soundcard right now and I can't figure out how the digital sound signal is pushed without the sound card at all and the benefit to repurposing the Auzentech.

But I know I need a soundcard for most speakers.

Okay
