I was looking for some laptops, the company is providing money to buy one. My company collaborated with HP, and they are providing all the extra things like extended warranty, insurance etc.

I had shortlisted 3 laptops.
1. i5-7200u(2.5 ghz, turbo 3.1 ghz) + 8gb ddr4 + 2gb gt 940MX + 1 tb hdd(5400 rpm), 720p screen @ INR 60000.

2.i7-7500u(2.7ghz, turbo3.5 ghz) + 8gb ddr4 + NO DISCRETE GRAPHIC CARD + 256 Gb SSD, 1080p screen @ INR 67000.

3.i5-5200u(2.5ghz,turbo 3.1 ghz) + 16gb ddr4 + 4gb gt 940MX + 2 tb hdd(5400 rpm), 720p screen @ 64000.
Gaming will not be a priority, but if csgo works then I will be more than happy but CAD and CAM designing will be priority.

I wanted to ask if i7 is just a overclocked version of i5? Will the extra cache and hyperthreading actually show some difference?
Also, will the extra ram actually help?
Kindly suggest which one should i buy.

THANKS in advance!

The i5 and i7 are exactly the same chip, one is just clocked about 5% higher. So, the i7 is no more future proof.

Only you can tell if 256gb will be enough, but in my opinion, PCs should not be shipping with mechanical hard drives at all in 2017. SSDs have been out for a decade and are orders of magnitude faster than mechanical drives.

They're both hyperthreaded and it will help na lot in cad work (assuming some 3d stuff) yes it's just a slightly 3.1 vs 3.5 max speed faster CPU with more cache. No question the i7 will outperform the i5... But then you need to ask what is a GPU worth and what is an SSD worth. If I had to work 80% of the time on the computer I'd take the i7 in an instant. If it was more 50/50 gaming and work I'd take i5

Mobile i5 and i7's differ only in clockspeed. The performance difference between the two is about 5%, which will be unnoticeable. But, as Supahos says, the i7 lacks a discrete video card which will greatly harm its gaming performance, while the i5 builds lack a SSD, which will greatly harm their general desktop experience.

Also, the i5 builds have a 720P screen. To be honest, I don't know if Windows is really even usable on a screen with a resolution that low. You may have instances where you open a window and the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons at the bottom can't be clicked because they're off the bottom of the screen.

EDIT: I expect CS:GO would run fine on the i7's integrated graphics, and the 720P screen and lack of SSD on the i5's is basically a deal breaker for me, so my vote is for the i7.
