RAM is slower than advertised (2133 / 3200 MHz)

My system has got 2x8 GB of DDR4 RAM, which should do 3200 MHz but only does 2133 according to bios, task manager and system info.

I've tried setting the memory speed to 3200 MHz in the bios, but upon boot I got an "Overclocking failed"-message and needed to revert it.

Motherboard (ASUS Z170-K) supports memory up to 3466 MHz.

Any ideas to what's going on, and how to solve it?

Are you enabling the XMP profile for that speed or manually overclocking the RAM? Sometimes, the CPU must be overclocked as well to get the memory to run at advertised speeds.

Right. It's hit or miss as to whether RAM will run at rated speeds on a locked CPU.

or unlocked, as that's only a multi issue.

All three components need to be able to run at that speed, CPU + MOBO + RAM.

CPU is a Core i5-6600K, to be overclocked very soon. It should also support 3200 MHz RAM

nope, stock is 2133 max. https://ark.intel.com/products/88191/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

Anything more than that is an OC and you are in the lap of the overclocking gods and your skill at overclocking.
