Front panel case has USB 2.0 but mother board has USB 3.0

Hi,

I have an older HAF 932 case which only has USB 2.0 front panel connections. I am upgrading my system and the motherboard only has USB 3.0 connection on the mother board.

From my understanding I cant plug my front USB 2.0 cable into the USB 3.0 on the mother board..........is this right?

My other question is Do they make an adapter for my USB 2.0 front side cables so they can plug into the USB 3.0 connection on the mother board? My guess they don't but just wanted to check.

Options:

a) Call manufacturer and see if they have upgraded USB 3 panel parts (I did this w/ Antec)

b) Buy a card reader with USB 3 ports

c) use an adapter cable but that will not deliver USB 3 speeds so is self defeating

You can look at this as a time to upgrade your case as well. Not only do you get USB 3.0 ports, but you could also get a different size of case, better cooling, etc.

Plus you can then recycle/gift/sell your PC to someone else "as-is" - knowing that it all works.

hi all, thanks for info. i will probably just get a new case.....my current case is big HAF 932 Advanced..i love the high air flow.......thinking about R5 silent case..........

did have a question about the 9pin/10min adapter.....how would this help me...........i have a front side usb 2.0 i dont see how this helps .......can you tell me how i would connect my 2.0 to the 3.0 connection on the MOB

When I purchases my system a couple of years ago, I wanted a fan controller, and I found one with a 5 1/4 faceplate that had a card reader and a couple of USB 3 ports on it.

What motherboard are you buying that only has 3.0 headers on it? I didn't know such a thing existed.

Cases are a personal thing, so if you like the R5 then go for it.

I got an Asus Prime B250-Plus board. It has "one" usb 2.0 but I have 3 things that need usb 2.0 to be connected to mother board. I have 4 usb front panel connections which require 2 mob usb 2.0 connections and I have a card reader.....which requires 1 usb 2.0 from mob..........so a total of 3 mob usb 2.0 connections needed

thanks for the info guys......I am going to try and stay with my HAF932 if I can.......I think my desire to get a new case was overshadowing my "NEED" for a new case. thanks.
