Hello there,

I got a brand new Western Digital My Passport Ultra 2TB external hard disk drive. When I connect the drive to my computer, it shows in This PC as only a lettered drive. No details such as space usage is shown.

When I try to access the drive, an error message pops up saying something like "Incorrect parameter" and even refuses to format.

I was unable to format the drive in any means available. I even tried the command prompt and command tools like diskpart. When I try to format, the drive disconnects itself for a moment and reconnects again.

What is the available solution to this problem? I am currently running Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.

Cheeseballs,

The external drive is obviously faulty right off the point of you purchasing it AITeX.

Return it if bought new from a store, or retail outlet and get it replaced.
It` not that common to get a drive unit that is DOA, but it does happen where it may of been damaged in transit by being dropped ect.

Hey Shaun o,

I don't know if I damaged the drive either physically or software-wise or not, but I did this: I really liked the case of my 1TB Lenovo HDD so I just "switched" their covers and the USB-to-SATA adapters inside also had to be exchanged to fit the cover. So I did that. And this is what I got. The 2TB WD HDD did not work when plugged in. Afraid as I was, I quickly unplugged it and switched everything back.

Did I do anything bad here?

Bananas,
