So i have an asus maximus vi gene micro atx lga1150

I have a main 500GB SSD for Windows and 1TB HDD for "recovery" as my second drive. And i just bought some new WD 4TB drives to put in my system.

The problem is the motherboard recognizes the 1TB hard drive (I can use it fine), but not the 4TB Hard drive. Now I've tried everything, new SATA cords, Different SATA ports, I even tried the ports that work for the 1TB hard drive. I also know it can't be the drives because, I tried using 2 different 4TB Seagates drives before these and they weren't recognized either. Now none of the 2 new WD drives i bought are being recognized. So it can't possibly be dead drives. Only thing that is left is the motherboard, which i have updated to latest firmware. Yet , it does not see these 4TB hard-drives, but sees the 1TB. They are not listed in BIOS, Disk Management or Device Manager.

I know it can support 4TB because this person is using it for their build: http://thepcenthusiast.com/asus-maximus-vi-gene-review/

I will try it in another PC. But like i stated above , I have bought 4 separate hard drives in the past 2 weeks. All 4 of them have failed to appear in the BIOS. It's highly impossible that all 4 of them have been DOA.

It's hard to believe you're dealing with a defective drive since you indicated purchase of four different disks (the same make/model?) and all exhibited the same non-recognition problem. These weren't used or refurbished units were they? Because if they were, they're all suspect as far as I'm concerned.

Presumably you'll have an opportunity to connect one or the other in another PC and determine if there's any problem. Or can't you connect one to your PC via a USB connection?

I'll assume you're working with an updated BIOS. And ABSOLUTELY no other problems with the system other than this non-detection problem. Comment on this...

If still no go it sounds like a motherboard problem but I'm still not convinced of that. I'm aware ASUS has a 3-year warranty on this board. Are you covered for that? If so, you may want to pursue a RMA process.

I have exactly the same problem, my motherboard was created in 2009, this problem come from outdated motherboards, it seems 4TB+ HDD can't be recognised by motherboard with legacy bios, only motherboards with EFI/UEFI support will do.

I was able to solve the problem. Turns out the SATA power cord from my older computer (which i was using in my new computer)was faulty, it was somehow destroying the drives. All good now!
