the internal hard drive of my laptop recently stopped working. but the remaining hardware is in perfect condition. I have one of those giant hard drives that used to come in desktop CPUs. I was hoping to find a way to use that as an internal for my Laptop.
thanks for any help.

Laptop drives are 2.5" form factor. The desktop drive sounds like a 3.5" drive. It won't fit.
It it is a 2.5" drive though, you should be able to use it.

If the laptop has fairly good specs, this might be a good time to upgrade to a SSD. If it's not worth doing that, a new 2.5" HDD shouldn't cost too much.
