Ok so i completed my new build. at first i couldnt get it to boot into bios. solved that. THEN i started to run thru installing my os and the monitor all the sudden went blank. the fans kept running but i wasn't getting any indication that the drive was still processing anything. following that i rebooted again and the computer lasted about 3 minutes longer then repeated the same activity. A few times itd cut and restart but most of the time itd become barren with the fans and drive running idle with no display at the monitor.

Im running an ASUS P5G41C-M LX Motherboard with a core 2 quad qp9500 processor (with the air based fan cooler), a blackbone pc case with 2 internal fans, a generic dvd-rom optical drive, a seagate 7200 barracuda hard drive, and 8 gb of crucial ddr3 ram. Its all powered by an EVGA 500w psu.

UPDATE: its not the PSU, drives or the ram. Is it a specific bios setting I'm missing?

Solution
2 possibilities, either you're not securing correctly the heatsink/fan over the CPU (assuming you've already figured out the correct way to apply thermal paste) or for some odd reason your CPU vcore is higher than its default value, something that seldom happens.

Can't remember right now the stock vcore for a Q9550, check in your BIOS its value and then google around to find out if its at its correct setting.
