I just bought a 2TB silicon Power A85.

I can feel it vibrating whenever I place my hand on the hard disk and it is in use.
It is a soft vibration with slight knocks constantly like every 1 second which can also be felt by the hand.

All this happens when it is in use. Otherwise it is silent. Even when connected.

I have run the hard disk sentinel test. It says it is perfect. Data seems to get copied at advertised speeds.

I have an old 500gb hard disk from my laptop that I converted into external. That is very silent in use as compared to this.

Is there any problem? Should I try returning it.
I can live with the vibration but the constant knocks seems worrying.

Thanks.

Hey there Raj.

The clicking could be the arm moving inside when the drive spins up and down. You did good by checking the drive with a diagnostic tool, but I'd also recommend that you give it a go with a different one as well, just to double-check and make sure that everything's OK. If you're still bothered by the sound, it would be advisable to contact the manufacturer's customer support for more info, to see if you should RMA it or not.

Hope that helps.
