Hello:(
Ok friends. I have got the prayer mat out and have got everything crossed in the hope that you may be able to rescue my motherboard. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard which I tried to update the bios on. For some reason the computer shut down half way through the update. No idea why. It just turned itself off. The computer will now turn on but only runs for a fraction of a second three times then it starts and runs for approx 15 seconds before it shuts down and starts again. This is continuing now for a couple of hours.
I have changed the power supply for a known good one but still the same. Start, stop, start, stop. Am I right in assuming that its because the bios is now corrupt (or what ever the correct terminology is) ??? If so, I believe that the GA-Z77-D3H is a dual bios motherboard and the backup bios should have kicked in and reset the main bios. Am I correct???
I have read many words of wisdom on the internet about removeing the battery and shorting the bios pins next to the battery which I have done but alas still no change. Start, stop, start, stop.
Am I up the swanny without a paddle and is it the case that I need to take the motherboard out and shoot it to put it out of its misery or is there a way that I can rescue it???

I wait with hope that there is someone out there that can help me.
Regards to you all
Martin

The motherboard does support DualBIOS.
Did you use @BIOS or Q-Flash for the update?
What revision number is printed on the lower left corner of the motherboard?
What is the exact name of the file you used to flash the BIOS?

Shorting the CMOS pins without disconnecting the power supply from the wall socket can damage the motherboard.

I shorted the pins when it was disconnected from the power. I believe it was the most recent update on the gigabyte support website. Think it was f24 ????
Thank you for replying.

Hi Calvin
It has Rev 1 on the motherboard. It was the most recent update which I think was F24 on the gigabyte website. I shorted the pins while it was disconnected from the wall socket. I used Q-Flash to do the update.

That does not answer my question about the exact BIOS file name that you used. I can't tell if you know how to flash the BIOS or not.

To get the DualBIOS to initialize:

Disconnect the power from wall socket. Hold power on/off button in for 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power.
Press the power button once, press the "Alt" and "F12" Keys when the Power On Self Test (POST) starts.
If everything goes okay the process should start with the prompt:
Press [Enter] to start copying backup BIOS to main BIOS

Sorry Calvin.
This is the bios update that I used. mb_bios_ga-z77-d3h_f18

I did as you said.

The power button flashed 3 times then the fourth time it started and ran for 15 seconds before shutdown it is now doing the same in a continuous loop. 3 brief flashes then 15 seconds of power then shut down. There is no post beeps or sounds apart from the fan running while it is running.
