I have recently updated my old Windows XP DELL PC to Windows 7, and since then the audio will not work. The speaker icon on the right side of the task bar says the audio is indeed working, and when I play music it shows sound playing, but my speakers sound nothing. Everything worked perfectly before installing Windows 7. I have tested the speakers on multiple computers, and even tried multiple different speakers for this computer and all the speakers work just fine on everything but this computer. How do I get audio to work again?

Sometimes new drivers aren't written for older hardware. Go to Dell and see if there are Windows Vista drivers for that device. they work in Win7. Sometimes drivers are available from the vendor of the device, but this can be risky with Dell because they like to do things their own way. If no driver can be found the simplest solution is a USB sound card like the Sound Blaster X-fi Go Pro, but this depends on your audio expectations.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/dimension-4600/drivers It doesn say Windows Vista+ is supported. Only Windows XP. does this mean I will need to purchase a USB sound card? The Sound Blaster X-fi Go Pro is out of my price range. I wouldn't wanna pay much more than 10 bucks on this computer.
