Hi, everyone!

I'm going to build a new PC to use with an Oculus Rift.

I would like your opinions on whether these parts will work well together and any suggestions you may have.

pcpartpicker list

CPU: Intel Core i5-7600 3.5 GHz £209.99

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo £24.95

Motherboard: MSI Z270 SLI PLUS £145.98

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz £104.99

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB £144.98

Video Card: MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X £460.80

Case: PHANTEKS Enthoo Pro M Acrylic £81.17

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNova G2 550 W Gold £84.98

Optical Drive: Samsung 24X Internal DVD Writer £17.95

Guys on the Oculus forum recommended the Z270 line of motherboards because the headset is quite picky about USB controllers. Lower end motherboards might meet the spec, but end up causing tracking issues.

I'm not planning on overclocking (not even sure the CPU can), but I chose the 212 cooler because it's apparently quieter than the stock Intel one and more effective. I'd like to use the i5-7500 with Windows 7, does anyone know if it's compatible?

What do you think of this power supply?

Thanks.

Windows 7 will work but I don't recommend it. Watch this video:

It's for W8 though but probably for W7 it's the same. Really watch it so you'll understand it better.

Another 1TB HDD storage would be good (for video, music files, etc.)
The i5 7500 cannot be overclocked. It' a locked CPU. The stock cooler is indeed loud :)
Hope your case has a good airflow, if not add some fans to it.

Thanks, Zane! I guess it's a good excuse to switch to Windows 10 finally.

I will probably put more storage in once I start to run out, just trying to use as few components as possible. Might even take the optical drive out once everything is installed.

How do I establish if the case has good airflow and where would I put an extra fan? Above the cpu cooler?

You can do a smoke test. Google it or watch the video from the same guy I linked it to you.

Usually you try to have more intakes then exhausts. 2 from intake, 1 rear exhaust. Something like that :)
