Hi all, long time pc user, first time issue poster.

So ive been using tomshardware to fix various troubleshooting problems iv had over the years so have never really had to ask for help before but this problem has got me pretty stumped.

Im not that tech savvy so il do my best to provide info

My pc is a gigabyte tower with a amd a75m-hvs mobo with a6 apu. And 2x a-ram dd3 4gb rams and samsung hd103sj 1tb hdd.

So i bought it brand new from in 2012 without a operating system and installed windows 7 on it. From what i remembered it used to run fine playing games online like mu and playing movies no problems for a few months till it started randomly restarting or freezing requiring a hard reset. It wasnt very often tho and would happen at very random times....fast forward to the end of 2016 and it was getting more frequent but still usable. I got a work pc for christmas so after backing up all my media files and moving my work files i thought it would be a good time to do a fresh os install to fix the freezing issue and speed up performance. I tried windows 10 but even after the install it would still freeze, and only a hard reset would fix it and or sometimes bsod, giving me a clock_watchdog_error. I was devestated as it kept happen after every 1to 10 mins of going online or trying to update windows. Even looking through explorer. I read somewhere that windows might not work with some amd apus or something like that so thought i would try a linux os instead. I installad the newest linux mint distro 'serena' and yet it still kept happening! After a few mins of going online to netflix or youtube or transferring media to the hdd/ doing stuff through explorer it would still freeze and need to hard reset. So obviously its my hardware thats the problem. I wiped the hdd aand installed windows 10 again but it now freezes within minutes of getting to the desktop. Atm its been running in safe mode with networking for the last 3 or 4 hours and hasnt froze yet.

I have the latest drivers installed via windows update and the driver manager shows that everythings up to date i have done a memtest and it has passed multiple times woth no errors, sfc scannow shows no errors, . The pc has almost no dust in it and i have 2 fans in it running full speed. Bios are also up to date. I have the side casing off with a desk fan also cooling it just to be sure its not a heat problem.

I have no doubt have missed more info but thats all i got at them moment. It is a clean install so dont know what where to look.

The bios are updated to the latest one, i did this during the first install of windows 10, i am thinking that maybe it made the freezing occur more? Also i have run memtest under windows and linuxs inbuilt memtest and neither had ant errors

Sorry i forgot to say that ive got 2 2gb rams from a known working pc in it atm, and it still does the same thing. Its been in safe mode with these 2 rams since this morning. Memtest only tests rams is that correct?

Metest86+ has been running for 14 hours and 6 passes no errors yet. Before i started it i went back out of safe mode and logged on normally. I was able to use the internet and explorer for about 3 hours without any freezes or crashes? So strange. I was able to look at the bluescreenveiwer not that i really knew what i was looking at but a hal.dll, ntskrnl.exe file had caused a windows stop error a day earlier. What to do?

Stopped memtest after 7 passes. I dont think an extra one would have done much but it still showed 0 errors so therefore rams must be ok? ... anyways i dont know whats going on but i have been able to log into windows for the last hour downloading itunes, reconnecting homegroup shares and watching youtube without any hitches. This thing has a mind of its own!

Well dont know whats happening with it now but the pc seems to have fixed itself and is no longer freezing. I have noticed my sata cable is a little bit corroded on the terminals so maybe it was that. I dont know but for now il matk as case solved. Thanks for the help
