I currently have an AMD Athlon x4 860k OC @4.3, and a EVGA GTX 950 FTW OC. I'm currently going to upgrade to an i7-6700k with a new Mobo soon and I know the i7 is going to bottleneck my GPU very badly. For the time being since I can't upgrade my GPU too at the moment, will I be able to max out newer games (Bf1, Mafia 3, Watch Dogs 2 etc.)? I'm currently playing Battlefield 1 on Medium settings with about 50-60 fps. I know to get the maximum performance from this CPU I will need to upgrade my GPU, but will this do great justice for an upgrade?

Solution
for GTX 1060 or RX 480 you don't NEED the i7.
i7 comes handy to those who have 144Hz monitors and GPUs that can get there. for 1080p@144Hz it would be GTX 1070 at the minimum.
i5-6600K/7600K with GTX 1060 would be great for 1080p@60FPS gaming for 2-3 years at least. After that you will probably want to upgrade the GPU.
Since you are investing in K CPU, i'd say wait a bit for AMD to show new gen CPUs.
They might bring better HW for lower prices.
CPUs and GPUs are not bottlenecking each other.
At most one of them can limit application perfromance. In different applications it can be different component that limits the performance (RAM, storage, CPU, GPU).
In your case, after upgrading CPU, the 950 will be the weakest component in the system. Do not expect the games to run much better (if at all) until you upgrade the GPU.

If you are just gaming I would recommend no more than the i5 6600 that way you may be able to get a stronger gpu as most games are more gpu dependant as well this helps ur worries of bottle necking. If u are really wanting a i7 the 6700k will be the best option for the price and performance ratio it puts out. The gpu wont bottleneck due to the processor. Even better option go out and but a gtx 970 that should do u more justice than ever or if u really have them money get a PNY gtx 980ti the price is crazy low currently.

If I go with an i5-6600k right now to save an extra $100 will I eventually need to go to an i7 in the future for newer games? I just want to make sure I'm future proofing my PC for a little while. I was looking at the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X GPU, how well will this perform paired with an i5-6600k and future proofing?
