Fried mainboard during RAM upgrade - What did I do wrong?

So I decided to upgrade the RAM in my Yoga 11s. Switched off and unplugged my laptop. Earthed myself to unpainted radiator pipework. Got access (eventually - RAM is hidden under the keyboard). Normally I'd take the battery out and then press the power button to drain residual power, but the battery isn't external. Prised the RAM clips apart with a pair of screwdrivers, but made contact with the circuit board and got a spark. Now it won't switch on. No power lights, no nothing. Okay, so maybe I shouldn't have used an all metal screwdriver, but I feel like I'm missing something else too. Grateful for any help that stops me doing this again.

Solution
Well, if you had battery in laptop, then it was powered despite being unplugged. NEVER do anything inside powered comp - that's what you did wrong. A spark is VERY bad sign. There is good chance you fried it.

Thanks DRagor. Yes, it was fried :( Problem with this model is that you reach the RAM before you reach the battery (which is buried inside). Oh well, you live and learn.

Stupid hardware design happens everywhere. Who says computer engineers are more intelligent then average joe?
