Sapphire RX480 4gb nitro+ memory clock drops to 300 resulting in game stutter or hang (R6Siege) on 16.12.2 drivers. Bought the gpu 2 months ago.
Had problems with drivers crashing or on some versions turning the fans to 3000rpm when it gets over 50 celsius.
Latest 17.1.1 drivers just would not even install, installer froze at about 90ish percent complete(uninstalled previous ones with ddu in safe mode).
On 16.10 or so (dont remember) it even froze my pc on desktop while i was afk which never happened to me in my life.
Never had so much issues with a gpu before:( Gpu on stock settings btw, never oced.

So if anyone can tell me if its hardware or software issue and have any suggestions or advice, please do.

Here are some Sapphire Trixxx screenshots (first one is when playing R6 and it froze the game for a few seconds, second one was when playing STALKER CoP Call of Chernobyl mod and it stuttered for a moment when the drop occurred)

So i don't know if you're still having this problem, hope no, but i tested my rx 480 all night yesterday and also a very same gpu which i'm sure has no problems. And i actually think it's an our gpu's problem, cause the other sapphire had no drops at all. While my gpu keep dropping from 1750 to 300 MHz. In the very same pc, just changing gpu. Same drivers too ofc. So, if you can just change it man, i'll change mine.

Got the very same problem. Same gpu and same cpu actually. It drop from 1750 to 300 and the game just freeze everytime. Tonight i'll try the gpu in a friend's pc, to see if it's normal or if it's just my setup. we'll do some test with his gpu to see what's different on same games. He got an i7 and 16 gb ram. I'll let you know if i find out anything!
Anyway, you should install 7.1.2 drivers by now. And also do it offline if you have windows 8 or 10. You turn off pc, turn off internet, torn on pc, install drivers, turn on internet.

Thx for the anwer, i did install the new drivers, still the same story.
Will see if it persists or it happens in more games, then i'll have to try getting it replaced.

Also fx-6300 is a very old cpu. Too much. And as you can see in every benchmark you can find online, it's a bottleneck for your sapphire rx 480. I actually had an fx-8350 until yesterday, and it was a bottleneck too. Now i changed to intel, i got an i5 7400. An i5 6400, for exemple, it cost just like fx-8350 and it perform 100 times better in gaming. And gaming only.
Changing cpu won't stop the freeze if it's a gpu's problem, but it will help a lot for sure in freezing less.
Using my fx-8350 i was freezing something like 1 time every 3 minutes in my pc. While using this pc of my friend, with i7-4970 , it freezed 3 times in 5 hours of tests. Still it did so i changed gpu, but it was much better with i7. So i also suggest to change cpu, and maybe wait until march to do that, to see new amd cpus!
