Graphics card bottleneck???

Solution

yes, then you can make a proper educated choice

if you know you are going to upgrade then a 480 is a good choice

yes, especially with your motherboard not allowing overclocking

a rx 470 is a better choice for you, dont expect benchmark numbers from that either though

The 8320E should be fine on that board, to about 4.2-4.3GHz which is honestly the best viltage/heat ratio for that cpu. It'll go higher, but not really worth it as you'll really need to invest in a very good cooler. Being only a 95w cpu, you have a little more leeway vrs the 8320. Something along the lines of a Cryorig H7 would be good.

As far as bottleneck, that's a moot point. In any heavy gpu related game, it'll do fine on the 8320E, it's only on some of the more intense cpu games that amd cpus have issues compared to Intel. AMD just isn't as strong on single thread performance, so even a lowly i3 can outperform an FX in games like skyrim. In other games like BF4, the 8350 came in second only to the i7's, not being able to match IPC in thread to thread counts, so there's that.

Basically, there will be games where you have settings high enough to use a lot of cpu, and still not use all the gpu resources, but in others you'll have a better balance.

OC that FX, it'll help. Just don't expect miracles.

Depending heavily on what game are you playing. Newer games such as Mafia3, Battlefield1, Farcry primal has been relying more on more thread. Your cpu has 8 thread so with newer games, your cpu should perform better than i5 that only have 4 thread. Rx 480 4Gb is a good card, but not as good as GTX 1080. I would say your current cpu should be able to optimize the 480. Some older games might have bottleneck, but still its not much that you should be worried about.

An upgrade from your old gtx 950 would show A LOT of improvement with your build. That I can guaranteed. Its worth the upgrade.

I agree with this. My reasoning is that any game that needs the extra performance of a 480 over a 470 for 1080p use will in all likelihood need more CPU as well. I have seen the occasional sale where the sale price of a 480 was pretty close to the normal price of a 470, that's the only situation where I think you might as well get the 480.

absolutely wrong, a 8320 is no where near an i5 in gaming

especially in mafia 3, bf1, and farcry primal. ALL require a lot of cpu power, which the 8320 severely lacks

8 weak cores will not be better than 4 strong cores, especially when most games only use 1 - 2 cores

I wouldn't say that's a bottleneck. Look at the gpu stats, its always a few % right behind the cpu. And GTA:V is a rough game to compare. Its highly cpu intensive and is optimized for 5-8 core use. It'll work on 4 just fine, but that's a minimum usage. The youtuber was also online as it had chat options open. Also to consider, you have absolutely no idea what mods, if any, were in use, and mods on that game seriously funk the cpu output, its entirely possible to bog down an i7-6700k/7700k with enough mods active. So yes, even an i5 can run into trouble in that particular game.

As you can see, the settings were the same Very High, and an 8320 with RX 480 was seeing 60's % cpu, 90's % gpu on average in GTA:V in that video, so take youtube with a grain of salt, they don't always show things in the best light.
