Applied thermal paste, fan is running, hitting 100c?

I have applied thermal paste using the pea method, spread it with a smooth piece of plastic by pressing down lightly. CPU fan is running.

Here is a picture of Precision X and the stats:

When I play Black Desert Online I reach 95-100c. However, it's not even utilizing the entire CPU:

Specs:
i7-4790k CPU @4.00GHz
16GB Ram
Nvidia EVGA 980ti

If I am missing something please ask and I will do my best to show you what you need to see.

Are you using the stock cooler? A different cooler? What are the room temps where the pc is at? The temps are definitely fairly high for such low load on the cpu (around 11% by your screenshot). At around 22% usage my 4690k is sitting at 29-31c with an ambient room temp of 21c/70f.

If using the stock cooler did you lock the pushpins down 2 at a time pressing in opposite corners? Ie, upper left and lower right together to make sure the cooler locked down flat to the cpu, or one at a time? One at a time could mean the cooler is cocked a little and not making good contact with the cpu. Also make sure the pushpins are seated all the way through the motherboard and locked down tight.

If nothing else works you may need to consider a...

when a cpu overheats it throttles down to save itself from burning

you are not supposed to spread it

you let the cpu cooler do it

remove the cpu cooler, clean the old paste off

apply pea sized amount, and put the cpu cooler on it without spreading it yourself

Alright I will do this now. Are you saying this is the only reason my cpu is overheating?

Which cooler are you using? It sounds like a problem with how the cooler was installed or with the cooler itself. While more effective or efficient methods of applying thermal paste will make some difference it won't be the difference between running at standard temps and 100c throttle temps. It might be worth double checking with another program like real temp to see if those are in fact the temps the cpu is reaching (ruling out faulty software measurements or interpretations).

I applied the thermal paste correctly now.

I would like to also include: My CPU sits at around 40 when just on google. However, when I play Black Desert it goes up to 90-100.

I have a CPU fan, but I do not use any coolant/water. I used the Artic silver 5 thermal paste. I installed real temp. The temps shown when playing Black desert are the correct temps.
Here's my temps as I am writing this: (I have about 10 tabs open in chrome, and that's it) no game running.

I used Arctic Silver 5. I used a pea sized amount in the middle of the CPU.
