Hello everyone

i was wondering if i upgraded my Motherboard, CPU & RAM and I have a 10tb HDD (filled with documents, songs, movies......etc.) with no OS nor programs installed on it. Do i need to make a backup and then restore it on the new hardware ? or just plug it back to the new motherboard and voila ! Done ?!

Thanks in advance

Solution
Presumably the 10 TB HDD will perform as a secondary drive in your new system so you can just connect it as such on the new motherboard AFTER you're ensured the system boots & functions without any problems with its new boot drive.

In view of the enormous amount of data on that huge drive - data which I suspect is very important to you - it would be desirable if you could backup that data to another drive (preferably a USB external drive) having the disk-space capacity to contain the amount of data on that 10 TB HDD for add'l security. Yes, it would be a considerable expense, but consider such if it's feasible and the data is that important to youl

I wish I could vote this up a hundred times. People that have any documents and irreplaceable media only saved once are just asking for it.....

Then you do not need to backup. It should be good to swap right over. However, I recommend that you do backup just as a failsafe, but you don't really need to if you don't want. Cheers and good luck wih the PC.
