My router has 4 slots for ethernet cables, all of which are used up. Is there some way of making more slots available that can all be used at once? I know you can't actually "split" Ethernet cables though, so would it be possible to connect another router to one of the cables coming out? And if I used a switch (I have no clue how it works) would I put it before the router or after?

The TP-Link switch linked above and the Trendnet green switch are the best, most reliable cheap switches I've found.

Both have metal housings, so are more durable than other cheap switches. The 8-port versions frequently go on sale for $15-$20. I've installed about 2 dozen of them in client offices and all but one have performed flawlessly. The one that failed was located in an outdoor water heater closet, and over the winters a bunch of ants decided to make it their new (warm) home. It shorted out from all the ant secretions (they'd put their larvae in it and I guess they were sloppy feeding them).

The Trendnet has lights on the opposite side of the plugs. The TP-Link has lights on the same side as the plugs. So buy one or the other depending on which side you plan to have facing forward.
