I have four Dell U2412M 1920x1200 (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2F83MX8827) that I need to drive. They'll do DisplayPort, DVI, or VGA. Right now I'm using DisplayPort. Spanning desktop (nothing intensive like Photoshop or video rendering, etc - just web browsers and spreadsheets, etc) for work by day and gaming (single screen - no Eyefinity or anything) by night.

A couple years ago I bought a Visiontek Radeon 7750 2GB GDR5 6M (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129274). At the time, it was the cheapest card I found that would drive all four displays.

Budget is flexible, but I'd like to find something for $500 or less.

Recently I started playing Just Cause 3 and found that unless I configure the settings VERY low, I barely get 20fps. I'd like to upgrade my video card to get a better experience out of this (and possibly other) game/s.

I found the Visiontek Radeon 7870 2GB GDDR5 6M (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129262) but I'm not convinced it's going to be a substantial upgrade. Does anyone have any wisdom on this?

PowerColor makes a 7990 (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131479) but the cheapest I found was $900. Even if I wanted to pay that much I have no positive confirmation that I can use 2x DVI and 2x DP at the same time - in other cards I've tried in the past, this wasn't possible.

I've looked into the Radeon series only because I already know the 4x mini-DP out works well under both Windows 10 and Gnome/Arch (I dual boot). I'm completely open to Nvidia, and I don't have a manufacturer affinity. This is a textbook "I just want the best tool for the job" situation.

Solution
You're light years out of date on the cards you're looking at mate.

Nvidia gtx 1060 or amd RX 480 simple as for 4 screen desktop & single screen gaming.

With $500 to spend you could go the whole hog with a gtx 1070 if you liked & it would have a good go at 4 screen gaming.

They all support 3 x display port + 1 x HDMI/dvi-d.
