Greetings. I'm going to keep this as short as I can. I have an extra ps4 in my room and a bunch of 'broken' laptops, although i don't know how they are broken. My question is how can I use a laptop screen as a monitor for anything. I have a HDMI cable already. ANY feedback can dramatically help.

Solution
first of all, how do you propose to use a laptop for a PS4 if the laptop is broken? lol. the HDMI ports on laptops were not designed to be used to connect other devices to use the screen.

you would need to get a video capture card to use the PS4 on a "working" laptop

My mom got this for 350 usd at the most, few years ago.

Most modern laptop screens use LVDS or eDP as the cable from the laptop to the panel. While you can get adapters which convert HDMI or Displayport to these formats, I dunno how well they work, and they're kinda pricey (1/3 to half the cost of a monitor), and it'll be ugly.

You're probably better off buying a monitor or getting an old HDTV off of Craigslist.
