Ok so I recently installed Windows 7 ultimate on a new build and I am getting the error "reboot and select proper boot device. " I have already gone into BIOS and made sure the proper boot device was selected and also tried force booting that device. Nothing has worked for me. However I put the hard drive in another build and set it as the primary boot and it booted up just fine. So I'm not sure what the problem could be. I tried the same SATA cable used on the other build and tried switching SATA ports and also tried switching the power supply to see if I had a faulty cable still get the same boot device error. If anyone knows what the issue may be any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Solution
Check that you are using a USB 2 port not a 3, and you need to check with the board support for drivers you may need. Getting Windows 10 should help also it works a lot easier with new systems.

Did you actually install Windows on the computer you are using or did you move the drive into it from another system? Did you change any settings in the BIOS after you installed Windows? Like changing the drive mode from ATA to AHCI or RAID or anything?

I installed Windows on the other build and I believe I found the problem. That I have the incorrect drivers installed on the new build and am currently trying to find out how I install the drivers or find the correct ones. I have been trying to install them through a windows.ISO usb. If you know what drivers I need for a western digital blue 1tb. Atempting to install them when my windows installer gives me the message "cd/dvd drive driver is missing" not 100% sure if this is correct or not but any help would be appreciated

You should install Windows on the system you will be using the drive in, moving a Windows drive from system to system will very often cause it not to boot because of the different chipset drivers.

Yes that's what I'm attempting to do now via usb. But once I boot into installer and go to select the drive there's no drive there and I get the message "cd/dvd drive driver not installed please select driver to install and try again" or something along those lines. And I believe it's meaning the driver for the hard drive is missing. So I'm trying to find out how I go about putting the drivers in there without being able to boot into windows. The hard drive is a western digital blue 1tb
