Power connector problem

Ok i went with the gigabyte rx480. Fits up nice but my pcu (cooler master GX550w) has 2x 6pin connectors (both with a small 2pin connector coming off it) and the new gpu has an 8pin slot.

One of the 6 pin connectors does fit with the 2pin connector going in the remaining 2slots. Is this right? Or do i need an adapter or worse a new pcu?

Ps i havent fired it up at all and of course am dying to see what this new card is like in games ✌
 
Yes, the 6+2 pin IS the same as one 8-pin connector. For example, I have two EVGA GTX 760's. They each require a 6 AND an 8 pin connector. I use the 6+2 pin connector for the 8 pin slot. Then for the 6 pin slot I use another 6+2 pin connector, with the 2 "extra" pins hanging off the side.

Thanks heaps guys! I actually just went on gigabytes page and read that it uses a 6+2 and thought that was what i had. So now ill jave a spare 6+2 (my old amd hd6000 used both 6+2 cables but the +2 was not plugged in.
