Hi guys,

Im having a very irritating problem with my monitor (Acer XG270HU), that I hope you can help me solve.

I recently upgraded my GPU from a Sapphire R9 390, to a MSI 1070 Armor OC. Some times after I finish playing a game, or more seldom even when I start up my PC, the screen turns black. The only way to get a picture is either by unplugging the DisplayPort cable, or by turning the monitor off and on again. This happens very often, but not all the time.

I didn't have this problem before when I used the R9 390, so I suspect it might be a weird issue with Freesync. Also if I play in windowed mode, I can't seem to replicate the problem.

I have tried using DDU, and installing fresh drivers, but i didn't work. I am running Win 10 btw.

Have any of you experienced this issue before?

Hello! I think I faced the same issue like you. Purchased a brand new STRIX RX480 and experienced a lot of weird PC freezes and crashes after some time while playing games. Sometimes, I get grey screen crashes and sometimes black with buzzing sound. Really, really got tired of searching the whole internet and no one in the internet has helped me/anyone. Tried a lot of things but still faced the issue. Almost major people say that maybe the PSU issue and RAM issue. Nope! Not at all. This problem has become really a mystery these days. Can't figure myself out. Try searching for the same issue on the internet and you will find many of them!

I know! So frustrating :( I am very sure this is not a PSU or RAM issue, I didn't see this issue until after a got a new gpu. The PC itself run superb. No freezes or BSOD's. Its just that issue with the monitor going black after full screen gaming. Hope you find a solution to your issue.

My problem isn't fixed and I'm choosing to go to NVIDIA GPUs. Take a look at your NVIDIA Control Panel monitor settings, maybe there are some settings affected. I recommend to uninstall your previous AMD Drivers using 'DDU Tool' if you didn't uninstall drivers correctly.

And I'm also sure that is neither the RAM nor the PSU.

After much fiddling, and unistalling/reinstalling drivers, I think I managed to solve the problem. In the Nvidia control panel, I found out that the monitor was listed as 60hz monitor, but in reality it is 144hz. Once changed it up, I haven't had a black screen, so I think that was the issue.
