Hey. I own a Dell Inspiron 17 7779 2-in-1 laptop. I was wondering if the gpu it contains (Nvidia GTX 940mx) is removeable, since I wanted to upgrade it to, perhaps, a 960m or a 980m. It's a dedicated graphics card with 2gb VRAM. If not, what other options do I have if I wanna play recent games on the laptop. Buying another one isn't an option.

I can't answer your question with certainty, but the answer is "probably not". Here's why:

Laptops tend to have their "discrete GPUs" either integrated into the motherboard (non-replacable), or on an MXM card. MXM cards are removable, but the cooling system in your laptop is not, and replacing the GPU with a higher TDP GPU will likely result in almost immediate overheating. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to assume that what you buy is what you're stick with in a laptop.

If you want to play recent games, your only option is to lower graphical settings until they're playable on your GPU. If it's not playable even at the lowest settings, there's nothing else you can do.
