What should I upgrade to get a higher FPS in Arma? (I currently have non OC parts)

I'm investing in Arma as a platform and I'm ready to upgrade my rig for a higher FPS.

This is my current rig:

GPU: GTX980ti
CPU: i7-6700 (non k) @ 3.4ghz
Mem: 16gb DDR4 RAM
H170 Pro Gaming Motherboard (not overclockable)
Running Arma and Windows off a Samsung 850 EVO SSD
Playing at 1440p

My question for anyone that's upgraded their system for a CPU dependant game like Arma is if I want to get the highest and most consistent FPS possible with Arma 3 then;

1. Do I upgrade my cpu to a i7 67004 4ghz?
2. Do I upgrade my motherboard to a Z170 so I can OC my current CPU? (Is this even possible because I have the non k CPU?)

Any ideas you have from your experience - I'd love to hear them!

Thanks!

Depends on your budget, I would think that since this is Arma you are good on the GPU side of things, and I would imagine you aren't doing too bad on the processor side either for that matter. If you want more FPS than you are getting now though, there are quite a few things you could do.

I believe you can overclock a non-k i7 with a z170 board, though I think there are some complications that come with that. You could get a z270 board and a top of the line Kaby lake i7, they overclock slightly better than Skylake processors.

Or you could go all out if you really feel like spending some money, and get yourself either an i7 6950k, 5850k, or something of the like. Like I said, all depends on what your budget is, and how much you are...
