Hi every one.
My 10 years old computer has a problem.
My hard disk drive does not work and I am going to buy new one.
My motherboard is il9 pro (manufacturer:american megatrends "ami"for short)
My old hard disk is maxtor 160gb diamondmax21.
I want to buy western digital blue 10ezex 1tb (7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch) .
But I have heard that if I install wd blue on my computer it will be more slow than now.
1-I want to ask you:
Is wd compatible with my pc?
2-Will my computer run more slowly if I install it than now?

Solution
You have been misinformed. While the WD Blue sits at the lower end of the performance charts and has a rather short warranty (2 years). It is very cheap cost wise but still will be waaaay faster than what you have now.

But at 10 years old ... is that a SATA equipped HD / MoBo ? or is it old PATA ? I think AMI is your BIOS vendor, that board I'm guessing is an Abit board. Is this your board ?

Storage Devices

PATA
1 x ATA100 2 Dev. Max

SATA 3Gb/s
4 x SATA 3Gb/s

If that is a PATA drive connected to that PATA connector, any new SATA devise would be incompatible

Is performance a consideration ? You will find the WD Blue and other options here...

You also might consider a HD w/ a built in SSD if you have a SATA connection .... an extra $20 gets you a 5 year warranty and H U G E performance increase.
