Hi folks,

Wanted to get an opinion on the 1080 vs 1080TI.

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and the 1080 is good enough to do the job as far as I can tell. I'm planning to use it for regular gaming and also to check out some VR gaming. From what I understand, the 1080 is very capable of handling VR gaming. Here are some more details on what is part of the equation for me:

1 - Will use it for VR gaming & regular gaming.
2 - My screen is 2560 x 1440 and I have no intention of moving to 4k.
3 - Current pricing of 1080's is my max budget.

I guess my paranoia is that I buy a 1080 today, only to see the 1080TI come out shortly after at a lower cost. That said, I've read some comments that the TI would likely be more expensive than the base 1080, which would make all the discussion moot and I could just go ahead with the 1080 and feel aok.

Any thoughts much appreciated and cheers.

Phil

is the 1080Ti even officially announced yet? Because if it's not we're talking about summer the earliest, more so autmn until you can actually buy one.

for your needs a 1080 should be sufficient.

but I think AMD is about to line up their vega line? this could drop prices on a 1080 for 50$ maybe, IF AMD can compete with the card.

in my personal opinion, until release dates are out in the open just buy the 1080. it's a very capable card.
when you're getting a 1080Ti you will have the same dilemma --- a 1080Ti now or a 1170 in a few months?

Thanks for the answers.

One follow up question then - do you recommend the founders edition or something from one of the resellers? My understanding is that the founders edition is built by nVidia directly and you should expect better quality. I don't mind paying slightly more for quality given that my current Asus 780 has a wobbly fan.

Thoughts?
