Newly Built PC turns on but no display to monitor

My PC won't connect to the monitor and I'm not sure why I've tried doing everything I can think of but it still won't register to the display.
PSU- 650 watt Corsair
CPU- I7-6700
Mobo-Msi z170a
GPU-Msi GeForce GTX 1080.

Try a different display port, and make sure your power cables are plugged in proper also make sure your gpu is in proper

I've plugged into the GPU using hdmi and display port. I've also tried using just the motherboard with no luck

So you now have your monitor plugged into the motherboard's port? Have you installed an operating system? Sounds like it is looking for the Windows installation DVD (or usb). Install Windows, then later re-connect the GPU and install it's drivers. Windows will have basic drivers allowing you to use the GPU before you intall it's drivers.
