My old hard drive is currently in my PC but the cpu power connectors are fried so I plan to just get a whole new PC since the things already pretty old. I had almost full 1 terabyte of stuff on there, and i was wondering if i could just take the HDD and plug it into the new PC i'm going to buy. And i had windows 7 on the hard drive, can i use that instead of the new windows 10?

thanks

Ah, I see. Most probably, you will have some extra SATA/IDE ports. So, you will be able to attach and use the drive. Check out the MOBO's specs, so you can be absolutely sure this is the case.

The old drive shouldn't interfere. Your system will boot from the SSD (Win 10). If something happens though, you may need to go to BIOS and remove your old HDD from the boot order.

Once again, keep in mind that your old HDD will be accessible, but you will need to reinstall all the applications.

Hi there Bruslice,

Are you going to get your new PC with a drive, or you are planning to use your current drive as a primary one?

If you get your new PC with an HDD (OS installed), then you can attach your old HDD as a secondary one. You will be able to access all the data like pics, videos, etc. yet, you will need to reinstall all the games and applications.

If you get your new PC without a drive, then you will need to perform a clean OS installation and reinstall everything, as your system would simply not boot. (different hardware)

Do you have a Win 7 CD? If you do, then you can reinstall Win 7.

Let me know you have some more questions,

thanks for the reply,
i plan to get new pc with 1TB HDD and 240GB SSD. Would I have enough room to use my old drive as well?
So will the windows 7 in the old drive interfere with the new windows 10 one?
