Hello everyone!

Quick explanation of problem

A 4TB drive shows up in windows, but has checkdisk errors each time I boot (it is not a bootable drive). A 2nd 4TB drive is only showing up as 1.677B. Neither of these drives are boot drives.. From what I understand, UEFI is only needed if these are boot. I don't have a UEFO option on my mobo. In Disk Management and Windows Explorer, the drives show as 3.63TB and 1.67TB. In CMD prompt, both drives show as 1.67TB??

Other issue:

sometimes plug in an esata or USB external, which keeps adding drives to my disk manager. How do I delete these entrie

Pertinent info:

- I am Using Windows 7 64Bit.
- Both drives are using an older Microsoft HDD driver, version 6.1.7601.19133 from 6/21/2006
- Both drives are using the GPT partition style
- ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe mobo using the latest ASUS bios (from 2010 I believe)
- Intel ICH10R Sata AHCI driver is listed under IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager (see attacheD)
- AHCI is selected in BIOS

Thank you fior your assistance!

Solution

Thank you for your assistance. That link did not solve my issue, but I found a fix for the 4TB recognition issue for my specific mobo. I'll post this in case someone else tries to use this old P5Q3 Deluxe with large TB drives. I think there were conflicting drivers installed on the system. Under ASUS support site, there are a number of drivers and utilities that can be installed, but maybe not all of them should be. They have Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver and Marvell 6121 SATA Driver . The Marvell drivers...

The Marvell drivers appear to be RAID, which I don't have yet. Here is what worked for me:

1. I removed intel storage matrix program / driver by using the uninstall method via control
panel.
2. I deleted the 1.667 volume via disk management. It was already set as GPT from before.
3. I rebooted the computer
4. went back to disk management and the disk shows 3.725 GB
6. My disk no longer shows " Intel ICH10R Sata AHCI driver" listed under IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers in Device Manager. Now its just "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller".

From there I created a new simple volume (GPT).

(3) I do not have a card reader. I do not know if it is coincidence, but when I uninstalled the Intel Matrix program and rebooted, the other Disk entries under Disk Management disappeared. I will try to connect an external again and see what happens.
