My Nvidia GTX 980 recently stopped "working" recently.
It will light up and the fan will start spinning and it's properly connected but doesn't get detected.
I'm not sure what wrong, I've had it working fine in the past but it seems to have suddenly stopped working. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Have you tried switching PCIe slots? I'm assuming you don't have another PC handy to test the card. I had a GTX 970 crap out last year that had been running #2 in SLI. Suddenly it stopped being recognized. EVGA replaced it under warranty.

Nope, this is my first pc build i've had and I'm not very inclined when it comes to stuff like this.
I can see it's currently connected the "PCI_E2" on my motherboard. Should I switch it to a "PCI_E4" slot that looks identical to the first one?
Thanks.

Also my motherboard is a "MSI Z97 PC Mate" if that helps.

The only "problem" with this workaround is, that your video card will run at PCIe 2.0 x16. You shouldn´t recognize any performance limitations with it, but there should be something else wrong, when the PCIe 3.0 isn´t working anymore.

Plug it back to the upper PCIe slot, maybe it was just a connection problem

reset the BIOS and please post the power supply brand and model

I plugged it back into the original PCIe slot and the problem happened again.
My power supply is a Corsair CX600.

For resetting the BIOS what method would you reccomend, My current motherboard is a MSI Z97.

Same thing just happened to me and I was all but tearing my hair out.

What worked for me was removing the video card from the motherboard and then putting it back. A connection must've come loose somehow and I was just about ready to re-install Windows! Thank God that wasn't necessary.
