So I am looking forward on buying a new graphics card and I got a sweet deal for a GTX 1070, my question is a few years from now is it still a viable graphic card or I would need to upgrade again?

I recently join the PC master race.

I'm previously PS4 only.

But the graphics and customization on PC made me try it, and overall just swayed me away from console gaming.

But I notice that it's abit costly to keep up with new PC titles since every game seems to be more and more realistic the requirements goes up aswell, compared to ps4 where everything plays on flat 60fps even though the graphics aren't as great as PC games($250 machine compare to $1000+)

So yeah let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading my post

CPU's will last a long time if you get a decent one. My last one lasted 8 years. GPU's improve at a faster rate, so you won't last as long with them, but that simply means you should be prepared to upgrade every couple years. Don't buy super high end with the idea that your GPU will last longer, it will make little difference in your next purchase. Just get what works great for you now, and up grade later down the road. You should only have to upgrade your GPU for the next 8ish years, unless your CPU is low end.

Heyo LOL69DV

Since the 1070 is one of the high-end cards, it should be able to last you around 3-4 years. Of course this depends on what games you're actually playing :)
I mainly go for the thumb rule that GPU's last 2-3 gens.

Cheers.

The gtx 1070 isnt as weak as you may think it is. Im pretty sure the gtx 1070 can run any game to any user. You can still use the gtx 1070 on any game title today. Unless you are wanting a full beautiful 8k gaming monitor with super high details i know the gtx 1070 can fulfill ur needs in game play. For god sake i have a zotac gt 720 for like 3 yrs and i can enjoy games (that is to say the lag is an annoying issue)

I just built a gaming rig and I decided that the GTX 1070 was the best bet for the price. It's a solid card that can run every single game I throw at it with ultra settings at 1080p and has never dipped below 60 FPS on anything. And I plan on keeping this card for at least 5 years and I'm pretty sure that unless VR takes off in a spectacular fashion I think my 5 year plan is perfectly doable. The GTX 1080 card is cool but it's for the user who has different needs than me.

I completely rebuilt my pc 2 years ago with a 970 GTx and it's flawless I keep dreaming of getting the 1070 or 1080 but at present it's pointless at 1080p. In the 15 - 20 years I've been a pc gamer I've done a complete rebuild 3 times my first was a a gt9800 I think all I know is it was a high end card at budget money, my systems get little tweaks over a five year period but have a complete rebuild at the end as the motherboard cpu and graphics are then obsolete is it worth the extra expense? I say yes! My reason is not just the better quality but the. Out of the games is half what I pay for my PS3/PS4 games I have nearly 500 games in my collection and very few have I paid near full price unless I'm desperate for such a game. There's loads of sites with half price deals on games just do your homework ;-)
Edit: it was the 8800gt

heck I still run a old hd7850 and a 6600gt agp in a build ?? true no powerhouse, but still does all I ask of it today . unless the card just up and dies it will go some more at this rate , so ????

you do got to assume some hot new demanding game may come along and your not going to be able to max it out or something or maybe cant use its DX 13 , but like today them games can have older DX11 optimization mode ?

your worrying about things that aint here to worry about look how many old build are still running fine today may not be the fastest or the strongest anymore but still doing the job
