Hi, I have some old IDE HDD that are working and want to install them into a dell optiplex 755 that I have lying around. Has anyone had any experience using an IDE HDD as the OS drive on a computer without IDE?

I've read only bad things about those IDE/SATA converters. Though for $5ish dollars I wouldn't mind giving it a shot if it has worked for anyone. Would a PCI IDE card work better?

I know I could just buy a new SATA hard drive but I really hate waste and would like to get some use out of the old IDE drives.

Thanks

Sadly they do not make the Rosewill rc-204 that I used to use often anymore. Those even worked in raid setups.

There are a couple issue with the more popular/good working ones: they stick out from the end of the drive and they often don't come with a power splitter (to power the drive). The drive will still need its own molex power connected and the ide/sata adapter needs a sata power plug connected to get its power so make sure you have spare molex connectors coming from your power supply or order yourself splitters
