psu is the cooler master rs 600 amba d3
i have an i7 870 with stock cooler
A gtx 960 2gb reference
8gb ddr2

It is a mini itx build using the cooler master elite 120 and it is the middle of summer so do u think that that would be the issue?

Yes Heat might be the culprit, just my opinion
What I'm thinking is, due to its summer and its a mini ITX, your PSU is pulling hot air in that might generating heat and your case is getting hot including other parts inside the case and that results into cuts out and restarts.
make sure your PSU is getting proper cool air and you have proper exhaust for your case (if possible)
other wise remove your side panel and try to run PC without side panel that might help
if that didn't work visit computer technician/ shop

i found a much larger case on gumtree for like 15 bucks. Do you think it would be a good idea to change the case?
And also my elite 120 doesn't have great dust filtering so maybe a clean would be a good idea too

As I mentioned in previous reply, open side panel then use your PC without side panel (test it before getting new case).
if your case is the issue then go for new case

It has gotten much cooler in the days after it last happened and it hasn't happened since. the last day it happened my room was quite toasty and i tried taking off the side panel that day and it didn't happen again

Then it looks like you have to get a new case. and which case you were talking about @gumtree.
can you provide a model or brand, if possible

He doesn't know the model. i can give u the link. Its much larger and has what i need. all that is wrong he said was a bit of a dent so ye. And also 15 bucks isnt that much of a loss if it does decide to crumble into dust instead.

I thought thiss because it was cheap but if you have a better idea i am fine with paying a bit more money. Thanks

Thankyou for the suggestions. I will probs buy one for my bday. Today it happened again for the first time in a while but today was the coolest it has been in a while and i had side panel off. So i will also get a can of comressed air and try and blow out the dust in the psu as there is quite a bit and that may be causing it. Worst case it isnt overheating and has a different problem.

Well heat and dust is the main things that you should look first, when it comes to cuts out, games crashing etc
now you know what to do..keep updating

Another problem that i believe is tied to this is that sometimes the monitor loses signal and seems like it might reboot. sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt so i believe it might be the gpu

It can be anything, your mobo, RAM, CPU, GPU, PSU, or just some cable.
if your finding it difficult then you should visit near by shop for some technical help
otherwise you need a other parts and the need to do some test by replacing some parts, like if u have another GPU(any) then install it and see if that happens again, do same thing with other parts if possible
but one part at one time, test it but it'll take some time to check each component separately.
