Hi, i just got a new 250gb samsung 850 evo to replace my kingston 128gb ssd as it got really slow and had disk errors. After doing a fresh install im still having lag on the lockscreen of windows 10 and just running the pc.
Could it be my motherboard as im having bios issues with it Gigabyte GA-H87M-D3H
Thanks

Hey there, Miloking101.

You could try @Diddly's suggestion, to see if anything changes. You should also give it a go with a different port and cables. Other than that, checking it for errors is recommended as well, even though it's a new drive.
Another option would be check for a firmware update available for that drive model and install it, to see if it fixes things up.
Do you have any other drives connected to your computer by any chance?

Hope that helps. Please let us know how everything goes.

i attempted last week a bios update from f3 to f9 and it corrupted the bios. Ive changed the virtual memory and that seems to have done the trick. My motherboard hasnt been liking usb 2.0s only usb 3.0s in the 3.0 slots. So i think its dyin. How does one update the firmware on an ssd?

I quick performance benchmark with samsung magican found that my brand new 850 is doing read speeds of 75 and write of 74 and my old kingstons ssd is doing read speeds of 50 and write of 65.
Could this be due to my motherboard. Ive basically lost all usb connectivity other then 3.0

What are those values? MB/s? If so, then there's definitely something not quite right here. If you've tried those drives with the same cables and ports it could be a faulty connection. However if the same issue occurs with working drives no matter what cables or ports you use, the it could be problem with the motherboard.
I'd suggest that you try updating or reinstalling the chipset driver, to see if anything changes. Hopefully it turns out to be something as simple as that.

That benchmark on samsung 850 evo 250GB should look like this:

And don't use any USB adaptors. Hook it to sata port on your motherboard.

not even on a laptop to check if its not the ssd causing it?

Check if it's under warranty first. If it is and if it's faulty, you should be able to get it replaced either by contacting the manufacturer or the vendor you got it from.
If you're OK with your current setup and don't need more horsepower under the hood, you could check for a compatible mobo and get one (even if it's second hand). This will be a budget friendly option. On the other hand, if you think it's time to upgrade, you should start thinking of the future and get a mobo which will let you upgrade your system with new technology for the years to come.
