A friend of mine has 2 pcs - one with win 7, one with win 10. He unplugged the hdd with 7, plugged the one with win 10 in and it started fine.

After removing the hdd with win 10 and putting back the one with win 7 the system won't start at all. Is there a way to fix that?

you have to have the correct motherboard drivers installed for the system to function correctly.
are these both the exact same manufacturer/model of computer?

you should always format your drives and reinstall Windows when switching drives to another motherboard for use as an OS drive. then reinstall all of the proper motherboard and other hardware drivers.

just format both drives, install whichever version of Windows you prefer on one, then use the second as a storage drive in the same system.

You put the drive with Win 7 back into the same system it came from?

What error messages do you get?
