My computer just asked me to save my bios to a flash drive...so i did. Not sure if i should be doing everything my computer tells me to do since terminator and all that AI stuff. What's the point of saving my bios?...also what is a bios? lol

Solution
the bios is the brain of the motherboard hardware. (consider it the operating system of the motherboard)
having a backup is common now, because all these overclocking fiends pushing the limits of their motherboards and having to restore the original BIOS when they go to far and pc will not start up properly.

Will it ask me to provide the backup in the event that my computer crashes?

No it won't tell you that you need to apply the BIOS backup, as most Windows & software crashes have nothing to do with the BIOS settings.

It's up to you to decide when to apply/change the BIOS settings from a backup, for example after you've fitted a new CMOS battery when the old one expired and all the BIOS settings reverted to factory defaults.

Forum tip: don't choose a post as "Best solution" until after you've finished asking questions!

Since no one else has put this down.

BIOS is Basic Input Output System. It allows all the hardware in the system to communicate with each other.
UEFI is Unified Extensible Firmware Interface and is the next iteration of BIOS. Think of it as a small OS that replaces BIOS. An example of what it does that BIOS couldn't do is allow custom GUI interfaces and a rudimentary internet browser. Most UEFI's will come with a legacy mode which will allow for older standards to continue to work with the rest of the system.

Yeah I'll remember that for next time, thanks.
