I have an Asus kcma-d8 with dual 4226 processors. The CPU's are running fine and not hot however in the bios under hardware monitor I see the SR5670 chip set is running extremely hot and it only keep climbing. Keep in mind I have this in an open air chassis and was wondering if perhaps my chassis needs to be raised up that perhaps there is just trapped heat or what else might be causing this one component to appear hot. By hot I mean climbing into 100+ degrees Celsius. For fear of causing further damage I cut it off, but was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the cause and possibly recommend a solution.

Cons: North bridge runs super hot.

The chipset gets very hot

just from some reviews thing is AMD chipsets do get hot they do all the work my 990fx asus seemed you would draw a blister if you touched it

thing is if its getting so hot to sound a overheat alarm '' it is clearly indicated as red error for the temperature''

a active chipset cooler may help ?

my buddy had to use them on his old 939 build

or contact asus and see if they may rma and hope the replacement is...

It was lat last night I am just trying to say it is clearly indicated as red error for the temperature. I was thinking about getting a chipset cooler but before I do, I want to make sure I dont invest more money into it if this is something wrong with the motherboard. If this is just possibly heat trapping or could be resolved with an after market chipset cooler w/fan, then I will take that route but I want to rule out the possibility that this is something directly connected to a possible faulty motherboard. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, I was looking into that titan chipset cooler. I just want to make sure that if I invest more money into this system it isnt going to crash soon. As of right now the system runs fine. The overheating was not occurring originally and it has never crashed. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't some deeper cause for this that is unable of being repaired. I will try the cooler and see if that helps. Also, it does sound any alarms and since it doesnt crash I am assuming that perhaps a cooler will help resolve.

cant say that's a risk you facing

unlike intel that stays cool to the touch all my AMD rigs are HOT on there chipset

like with any of this stuff you do what you feel is best and hope it all works out . may work out and last for years then may spit her bit in a month or so ??

then just my be the nature of that chipset

found this said in a review at amazon on youir board

''Hi I bought a ASUS KCMA D8 board which has a SR5670 chipset. The fact is that the server has crashed several times the entire system, having to make hard reset actions.

Updated the BIOS to the latest version, found in the menu "boot -> Hardware monitor" the temperdarura of this chip rises to nearly one hundred degrees and the indicator shown in red. They have installed a fan has this chip in particular and the situation persists.'''

in the red just like you stated ????? see maybe a firmware bug in the bios ??

I wanna ask one question on this topic, can computer freeze because overheated chipset? Few days ago i got fx8300 into one of my PC's just to get it to run better, but It initially started overheathing, so I installed better fan on CPU, and now CPU is running at 25-45 Celsius, it never did freeze before(on FX6100), so I was wondering if the freezes occurs only because my chipset is still overheathing, and will another fan on it do any work? Still not sure if that is the thing that causes PC to not respond at all, I updated BIOS on F6, did run system check, cleared all the junk from PC.. Another question, could it be because CPU is in bad shape and is there a way to check in what condition is CPU? Thank you!
