I work in a school. We have Coax cable running to every classroom from our media room in the media center so we can show videos/dvds and transmit to the classrooms. However, most of our TV's are gone, broken, or old. We would like to connect the coax (system) to the projector that each room has. Obviously there is no coax on a projector. I know a VCR or VCR/DVD combo will work having connected it with RCA cables.

What I would like is a more inexpensive solution than a VCR/DVD combo if there is one, and one that I might be able to use an HDMI or VGA cord to send the signal to the projector as we have those run in each room already.

If that is not possible, or is too costly, I can run RCA cables to the projector across the ceilings.

We have no OTA signals or antennas so I know the digital conversion boxes won't work as there is no signal to find.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

What sources are these projectors going to be showing? Are those coax cables coming in from a cable company or the schools internal video source? If it's just the school signal, something like this may work http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-1080P-HDMI-ATSC-TV-BOX-DIGITAL-TERRESTRIAL-CONVERTOR-HDTV-ANTENNA-RECEIVER-/171716009415?hash=item27fb125dc7%3Ag%3AyuwAAOSwEetWBASe

While not meant for a cable connection but for an antenna, a un-scrambled coax signal should work with those. Cheap enough to get one and see if it works.
Video Inputs for projector: HDMI, VGA

You can use a basic PC with at least a Pentium 4 3.0 CPU powerwise.

An interface for viewing video and image files. I suggest NextPVR.
http://www.nextpvr.com/

A TV Tuner for a PC. These are available in USB or cards that fit in the PCs internal slots.
for example:
Hauppauge 1595 WinTV-dualHD Dual Tuner USB
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4M53T22841

Check the requirements to see if you need a video card for the tuner. The coax cable goes into the tv tuner and picture is output from PCs video output to the projector. HDMI carries sound.

I would say that this coax system sends TV (UHF) signals, since a VCR can be used as a "converter".

If you have PCs in the classroom - there are USB TV tuners on the cheap, where you connect the cable to the tuner, an app on the PC shows whatever comes off the cable.

Unfortunately, we do not have PCs. Teachers do have a Dell laptop, but if the teacher is out on a particular day, a substitute would not be able to show the signal. This tuner cannot be plugged in directly to a USB on a projector can it?

Can you think of any other solutions besides this that might work? Is there any type of external tuner similar to a digital conversion box that would work for our purpose?

Thank you,
Jeremy

Sorry. All of them are Epsons. 95% of them are Powerlite99WH models.

Internal source only.

I did try one digital converter box and the only thing it would do was search for OTA signals and I could not get it to recognize the internal source. I thought one might work or am looking for something similar since a VCR works.
