Code:
Two days ago there was some electrical surge which came through my co-ax broadband wire, which was connected to my router and from there to my pc through cat5e, it burned my router's lan port as well as my pc's lan port also my router is dead now. I tried booting my pc but it won't boot now. I can clearly see the lan port burnt black. Is it even possible? Even the paper barcode that was on the lan port (inside mobo) is melted.
These are the specs.
Mobo : gigabyte h112 s2 ddr4
Ram : kingston 8 gb
Graphics card : nvidia 750ti
HDD : WD blue 1 TB
SSD : Samsung 128 gb
PSU : 500w

Although my pc was turned off, even the power button of PSU was turned off. Still it got fried.

What might be the damage? Is it my mobo or just my lan port that is causing the problem?
Is it possible that any other component got damaged. I checked my PSU by inserting a bent wire inside the green and black wire and it's fan is working fine.
As i bought the pc around 8 months earlier so it's still under warranty. Will the warranty cover the mobo and all other components (if anything else is damaged)
FYI : pc is assembled, but i have all the bills of it's parts.
Please help :'(

What country are you in?

If there was enough power to physically burn a port then something is dramatically wrong on the line the ISP are providing you. Generally component manufactures wont cover this type of damage as it's at no fault of theirs.

However if you are positive that the surge came through the cable then it's on your ISP they are responsible for ensuring your connecting is safe and conforms with regulations at all times. This often involves placing High Voltage surge protection such as Squibs on the line.

If there is physical melting you got off lucky if the surge lasted longer you would be talking to your home insurance company right now because your house would have burned down.

Keep me posted. It's rare I hear of things like this occurring.

I am from india. My guess is that my ISP didn't installed proper protection for surges like these.

Finally, i went to the shop from where i got my pc assembled. And they sent me to the gigabyte service center. They clearly told me that they don't cover burn damage. So i had to replace the MoBo. Thankfully every other piece of hardware was still working except for my mouse and keyboard.

So my question is : i want to buy a new surge protector so that i could plug everything into it. Old one (one which burnt) was just an extension cord. Would it be safe to plug my router into the surge protector? If something like this happens again, would it damage my surge protector?(a good one is really expensive and i cant afford to buy one everytime something like this happens) As the electricity flows backwards into the connecting point i guess. Would it be able to cut the supply to the router or the surge protector would get damaged?

I tried to search for lan surge protectors online, they are way to expensive for me. Is there any other way to be protected against PoE?
I am thinking of buying a wireless adapter for my pc if thats the only option. Any recommendations?
I will also post some pictures of the burnt MoBo.
